Ok, all, we are back in Oakland, Ca. where it is HOT! I’m going to share some photos from the recent trip. We had a long layover at JFK International Airport at the beginning of the trip.. we took a redeye from Oakland to New York, followed by another redeye to Dublin. We were exhausted in New York… but instead of hanging out at the airport, we took the subway to Brooklyn and walked from there to Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge. In New York City? YES! If you look carefully at this shot… yes, that is Manhattan! This refuge is home to nesting ospreys, Canada geese who hiss at hikers when people get too close to their young, red winged blackbirds, robins, swallowtail butterflies, diamond backed terrapins (turtle like reptiles, and more. It is a better use of time than trying to find a place to sit at JFK! The neighborhoods around it are classic New York Burroughs… quite fascinating! Check it out next time you are in the area.
